Asynchronous online learning provides flexibility and accessibility for students, yet it often lacks the interpersonal connections that foster a sense of belonging and engagement. The “Belonging in Asynchronous Courses” project aims to bridge this gap by creating an innovative resource designed to help instructors build inclusive, student-centered online courses that promote a sense of belonging. This professional talk will present the development of this resource, including actionable templates, best practices, and strategies for instructors to implement in their courses, as well as a collaborative community of instructors dedicated to enhancing student engagement in online learning environments. This talk will explore how fostering belonging can transform asynchronous courses and lead to better student outcomes while providing instructors with the tools they need to succeed.
